Turkey coup: Man vs tank… How takeover attempt unfolded
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking to CNN-Turk through FaceTime, called the actions by the military “an attempt at an uprising by a minority within our armed forces”. NTV reported that one helicopter was shot down. Reports said that flights into Istanbul’s main global airport had been halted.

It is unclear, but Turkey’s foreign ministry said the coup attempt had been “foiled by the Turkish people in unity and solidarity”.

A local person has taken over the live broadcast in the early hours of Thursday, saying that the corridors of the building were under the control of the police’s special forces. He says he is returning to the capital Ankara. The senior official told The Associated Press that all government officials were in charge of their offices.
