Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump won’t speak at the NAACP convention in Cincinnati, but his one-time GOP challenger, Gov. John Kasich, will. On Thursday night, the RNC rules committee voted down an effort to unbind the delegates allowing them to vote against Donald Trump, ending a last-ditch effort to deny him the Republican presidential nomination.

“Anti-Trump people get crushed at Rules Committee”.
In the wonky Rules Committee meeting ahead of the Republican National Convention next week, a whip team assembled by the Trump campaign worked closely with officials at the Republican National Convention to defeat anti-Trump delegates’ efforts.
“The governor considers it a great privilege for OH to host the NAACP’s national convention, and he is honored to speak at their event”, Kasich’s spokesman Kalmbach said in a statement to U.S. News and World Report.
Trump supporters say the movement to stop the candidate is now finished.
Delegate Brian Buescher, an Omaha attorney, says Pence will help strengthen Republican support for Trump, especially among social conservatives. “But the reality is the delegates have come together”.

Kasich has declined to endorse Trump and doesn’t plan to take part in GOP convention floor proceedings in his home state, where Kasich won the GOP primary and had hoped to challenge Trump in a contested convention before the businessman’s delegate lead became insurmountable.

Not only did the panel turn back the effort to declare delegates unbound, it passed language stating that delegates are bound to the outcomes in their states, by a vote of 87-12, the vote referenced by Trump in his tweet. Realizing belatedly that they were being used by pro-gay Republicans, Barton & Co. are now loudly disassociating themselves from the petition, and as of today it seems 28 of the 38 signatories are repudiating it. We won’t know for sure until Monday morning, but it looks like the platform as approved by the committee will be gaveled through without debate.
