Giancarlo Stanton Plates Himself as a Home Run Derby Legend

And in the past few years, there has been a consensus among baseball fans that Giancarlo Stanton is the best at doing that.

By smashing a total 61 home runs on during the Derby, the Marlins ticket promotion should provide fans with a 61% discount. The top 8 furthest balls hit last night were all smashed by Stanton.

Marlins Park will be host to MLB’s Midsummer Classic next year, with the Home Run Derby on July 10, 2017 and the All-Star Game the following day. Stanton wasn’t a surprise since he hits balls out of the ballpark during the season.

Stanton who is one of the league’s best power hitters, defeated last year’s victor (Frazier of the Chicago White Sox) and top hitter Mark Trumbo of the Baltimore Orioles. The highlight of the night had to be the 24 home run barrage in the first round, where his colossal skyscraping homers were as impressive as his 450-foot line drives that somehow, impossibly, were still rising as they went over the fences.

“I knew I could do it endurance-wise”, Stanton said. “I was just hoping my swing didn’t fall about”.

Stanton dominated in the first two rounds, defeating both Robinson Cano and Mark Trumbo easily to advance to the finals. Not surprising as Stanton can clear the highest point at any ballpark.

Frazier was actually into his third derby Final in a row, but just the second since the format change which sees the eight participants seeded and then eliminated in head to head competition until there are just two remaining.

Tuesday’s Say Hey Baseball is focused on the All-Star Game festivities and the fact that Giancarlo Stanton is the master of hitting baseballs really hard.

The Home Run Derby has been held in connection with the All-Star Game each year since 1985, except for 1988 when it was canceled due to rain. Thirty seconds of bonus time was awarded for two home runs that each equal or exceed 440 feet. If he stays healthy one can only wonder if he’ll break his own record.

61 homers in 13 and a half minutes means Stanton drilled one every 13.3 seconds, which is absurd.
