It is with sadness that we report that Jerry Greer, the son of country musician Craig Morgan, has been found dead after a tragic boating accident. While the other person was able to save himself, Jerry failed to resurface despite wearing the life jacket.

The family requested prayers on Monday when the search for Greer was underway and has again requested prayers following the discovery of his body. The search of about 10 acres involved about 80 people, almost two dozen boats and a helicopter, WKRN said.

Greer’s friend who was driving the boat at the time of the crash went out on the water with search crews to try to give them a better idea of where he went down. Officials do not believe in the involvement of alcohol in the incident.

While no cause of death has been given, Sheriff Chris Davis of the Humphreys County Police Department indicated that Jerry succumbed to injuries sustained while tubing in a local lake. It said Greer had just graduated from Dickson County High School and had planned to play football for Marshall University in West Virginia in the fall. He is survived by his parents, a sister and two brothers.

Representatives for Morgan and his wife, Karen Greer, released the statement to The Huffington Post via email Monday.
