Two groups are trying to modify the convention rules to free delegates from required votes.
For the Republican Party, the minimum number of delegates a candidate needs to secure in the 2016 presidential election is 1,237.
Ryan said the House had just passed the first mental health legislation in a generation and said there was common ground between Republicans and Democrats on the issue. Yue had hoped for support Tuesday from members of the Republican National Committee, which has assembled in Cleveland for pre-convention meetings.
“Hello, Cleveland!” Reporter George Bennett is covering the GOP convention for The Palm Beach Post.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Running out of options to voice displeasure with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, some delegates who oppose him have flirted with a movement to try to upend next week’s GOP convention in Cleveland.
There are efforts from within Trump’s campaign and elsewhere that do not want the rules to change.
“The RNC has the deck and they are stacking it”, Lonegan said. They will annoy you but they want do anything.
In order to successfully affect the Rules Committee, proponents of the change must convince a quarter of the committee members that granting delegates “unbound” status is a good idea.
