Former House speaker Newt Gingrich is the subject of a new round of Donald Trump vice presidential buzz after Fox News announced it suspended its contract with the ex-Georgia lawmaker in order to avoid a potential conflict of interest.
Gingrich, like Trump, had a surprisingly successful run for president, built on support from blue-collar white voters angry at the establishment, though he fell far short of the Republican nomination in 2012. The move has fueled speculation that Gingrich might be The Donald’s VP pick.
Gingrich joins a list of several other likely candidates for the position including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, retired Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, and Sen.
Gingrich has worked as a consultant on Trump’s campaign, and said earlier this month that he was being vetted to be a prospective vice presidential pick.
Trump had planned to hold his first event with his yet-to-be-named running mate Friday morning in NY. “I had a very sophisticated medical doctor in Des Moines write me two days ago and say he sent a thousand dollar check to Trump”.
As the Republican National Convention approaches next week, political media have been abuzz with rumors and speculation about who will be Donald Trump’s running mate.
Gingrich’s appearance as a guest on Hannity’s show comes just one day after Fox News suspended Gingrich’s role as a contributor to the network because of possible conflicts of interest.
Like Trump, who casts himself as the ultimate deal-maker, Gingrich has shown a willingness to work across the aisle.
“With Newt you have that same single-minded perseverance” as Trump’s, said Chuck Clay Tuesday.

“My guess is you’re going to hear either tomorrow or Thursday”, he said. “I think my strength is totally different”.
