Tanaka, pitching on five days’ rest instead of four, kept Chicago off-balance for most of his outing. Hicks flied out to leave the bases loaded in the fourth, he flied out again to leave runners at the corners in the sixth, and he struck out to leave two on in the eighth.
“That was the difference in the game”, manager Joe Girardi said. “I was able to do that so I’m pretty satisfied with that”.
Sabathia has allowed at least one home run in each of his past three starts.
For the White Sox (43-41), right-hander Miguel Gonzalez (1-4, 4.88 ERA) is scheduled to start.
“Tomorrow, hopefully, I’m in the outfield and I’ll continue to progress”, he said….
Chicago evened the score at 2 in the third inning on Anderson’s two-run home run. Tanaka gave up 22 home runs in 154 innings last season but has only allowed nine in 104.2 this season.
METS 8, MARLINS 6: In New York, Yoenis Cespedes hit a tiebreaking, two-run double off Fernando Rodney in the eighth inning, and New York overcame a six-run deficit to extend its winning streak to five.
“I think we’re swinging it better, it’s warmer – a lot of factors go into it”, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “This is the wrong lineup to be erratic and get behind”.
“Once they got the lead he just seemed to get into a nice little groove of throwing a few more fastballs but slowing it down”, Ventura said. “Everything needs to get better for us to turn this thing around”. “You felt like you were going to get on every time”.
Castro started the third with a single and Headley came next, crushing a 1-and-0 pitch to left-center for his seventh homer of the season to make it 4-0.
Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-6 to move past Dave Winfield on baseball’s career list with his 3,111th hit, which was also his 547th career double to tie Manny Ramirez for 29th all time.
After almost scoring against Rodon in the first, the Yankees took a 2-0 lead on three hits and an error in the second. It was from the right side of the plate, a day after clubbing one lefty, and put the Yankees ahead, 4-0. The Sox have been hitting the ball well at home, but can they count on Shields to perform. “They came out swinging today”. Hats off to them. “If they want to give me a 26-man roster, maybe I can do something about it, but last time I checked, they’re not going to do it for me”.
The White Sox have won four straight series and 10 of their last 15 games.

In the second inning, Beltran opened the scoring, singling home Rob Refsnyder – who started at second base – from second to make it 1-0 Yankees. OF Jacoby Ellsbury had an ice bag on a leg, but Girardi said it wasn’t the reason Ellsbury didn’t start…. NY recalled LHP Chasen Shreve from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace RHP Luis Cessa, who was optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to be a starter….
