Sanders Endorsement Could Come Before Convention

Two new Hillary Clinton ads characterizing Donald Trump as unqualified to be president will start airing on Nevada’s television airwaves, her campaign announced today.

Three Democrats involved in planning Tuesday’s event, who spoke to the USA newspaper on condition of anonymity, said the anticipated endorsement is the results of weeks of talks between the two campaigns aimed at unifying the party.

The Sanders and Clinton campaigns are still discussing policy areas where they can reach agreement, including ways to expand access to health care coverage. But Sanders supporters exploded in cheers when they won environmental amendments that included support for pricing greenhouse gases, prioritizing renewable energy and limiting fracking. Without their support, Clinton is missing a significant percentage of Democratic voters who could help her “defeat Trump badly”, as Sanders would say.

The Virginia senator – who Clinton has invited to campaign with her next Thursday in his critical battleground state – is seen as a leading contender, several Democrats familiar with the process believe.

At the same time, Sanders indicated he may remain a thorn in the side of Democratic leaders, seeking to use the Democratic platform to block a vote on the Trans-Pacific Partnership during the congressional session after the election but before lawmakers are sworn in for the next term.

Sanders has said he will work to ensure that the “political revolution”, as he calls it, goes on.

Sanders risked being left behind, however, as other prominent Democrats have rallied around Clinton, including President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, a favorite of the party’s liberal wing.

Trump is suggesting that Clinton would be easier to beat than her longtime rival, a democratic socialist from Vermont who touted free college, universal healthcare and broad Wall Street reforms.

Furthermore, 60 percent of Sanders primary supporters say that there is at least a 75 percent chance that they end up supporting Clinton in November while just 23 percent say there is less than a 50-50 chance they will end up supporting the former Secretary of State.
