TSA, American Airlines jointly testing new innovative airport security technology
The scanners are now used only to screen checked luggage, but the 3-D technology could allow passengers to leave liquids and laptops in their bags, reducing hold-ups in the screening line.

This spring, long lines at TSA checkpoints made many miss their flights or even sleep in airports.
Unfortunately for you, the new systems will only be at the busiest airports in the USA, which include Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Chicago O’Hare and Miami.
The goal is to reduce the security check wait time by 30 percent.
TSA Administrator, Peter Neffenger, said: “Our foremost priority is the security of the traveling public”.
The airline referred to the lengthy lines as “unacceptable”.
The CT bag-screening technology will be deployed at a Phoenix TSA screening checkpoint as a pilot programme that is scheduled to start by the end of this year. But he questioned why an airline was footing the bill rather than having all stakeholders – TSA, airlines and airports – collaborate to figure out what technology is needed and seek funding for a broader rollout.
– Unique Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags that are attached to each bin to allow for additional accountability of items as they transit throughout the system.
American Airlines is the first airline to test this technology.
American has said the TSA must add enough staff to handle checkpoints during peak travel times, without relying on airlines to contract extra airport staff.
During the operational crisis, the TSA also began moving some travelers into PreCheck lanes by increasing the use of canine teams at major airports and by assigning some passengers to that lane using a “risk factor calculation” of intelligence, itinerary, and biographic information. But airlines and airports on their own also are funding nonsecurity tasks this summer such as bin running and queue management to enable TSA officer to focus exclusively on security.
The average wait time nationwide in standard security lines was less than ten minutes, while those in TSA Pre-check lines waited less than five minutes, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson announced Tuesday.
Airport workers would also get tougher security vetting.

Time is the one thing nearly all travelers don’t have an excess of – particularly with clogged security lines around the country.
