The Air China Boeing 747-400 plane carrying Chinese President Xi Jinping heads in to land Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at Boeing Field in Everett, Wash.
The Israeli foreign ministry said United States aviation authorities received the information, which referred to a bomb having been placed inside an airplane kitchenette.
It said the flight was escorted by French warplanes before it crossed into Swiss airspace.
The French air force said it also scrambled jets from an air base in Creil north of Paris after receiving a warning from an ally.
El Al flight LY002 was traveling from NY to Tel Aviv when airline officials received an anonymous tip about a bomb on board.
Unsubstantiated bomb threats have caused numerous alerts and diversions on passenger planes in recent months, including a British Airways plane in New Jersey last month and a flight to Hamburg.

El Al released a statement saying no explosive device was found on board, the Jewish Press reported later in the day, citing Israel Radio.
