After five successive matches went against serve, another miss from the five-time Wimbledon champion – in her first grand slam semi-final since the 2010 US Open – resulted in Kerber taking a 4-2 lead.

Angelique Kerber has reached her second Grand Slam final, beating Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Her ruthless 6-2 6-0 thrashing of the unseeded Russian in just 48 minutes was the quickest- semi-final win this century.
Kerber defeated Serena in this year’s Australian Open final and the German fourth seed will attempt to thwart the American’s bid for a 22nd Grand Slam title, which would equal Steffi Graf’s professional era record.
“That’s something I learned”.
And the eighth seed looked tired throughout, dropping her serve four times in the first set and also in the first game of the second.
She had Vesnina running all over the court to eventually finish the points at the net.
World no. 4 Angelique Kerber and defending Wimbledon champion Serena Williams will meet in the final at Wimbledon this year.
Kerber used her outstanding passing shots to keep Venus moving side to side all match, and was the more efficient player on Thursday.
Angelique Kerber is hoping to end Germany’s wait for a Wimbledon women’s singles victor 20 years on from Steffi Graf’s last triumph.
“She’s going to win this one”, he said. “I’m a little bit more relaxed than there”. Asked to assess her difficulties in the match, Kerber responded: “I think we were both returning well at the beginning of the first set”.
Saturday’s final between Williams and Kerber will be a rematch of January’s Australian Open final, which Kerber won in three sets. Here I know what happen afterwards.
“I think for sure I will go out there with a lot of confidence”, Kerber said of facing Serena.
A few hours after playing in separate matches on Centre Court at Wimbledon, Serena and Venus Williams teamed up to reach the semifinals in the women’s doubles tournament.
After the match, Williams left no doubt that she was anything but satisfied with qualifying for her third Grand Slam final of the year.
Kerber said that wearing down her 36-year-old rival was part of her strategy. “I know that I have to take time for my practice and focus on the gym and the tennis as well”.
“I feel that we’ve found this”. When you talk with her, it’s always a great honour to speak with her.

Tracy Austin, two-time Grand Slam victor: “Serena lost just one point on her first serve, had a first serve percentage of 77% and hit 28 winners”.
