“Game Of Thrones” led the way with 23 nominations, including best drama which it won for the first time a year ago.
It means that for the fifth consecutive year the major broadcast networks have received no nominations in the drama category.
While pundits will babble about how major streaming services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu made big gains in Emmy nominations, viewers don’t really care where a good programing comes from or if it’s getting recognized.
Game Of Thrones and Downton Abbey are nominated for the outstanding drama series award along with Better Call Saul, Homeland, House Of Cards, Mr Robot and The Americans.
But ABC sitcom Black-ish was much less of a lockdown, as evident by the whoops and hollers from its star (and nominations co-host) Anthony Anderson at the nominations ceremony. Veep, last year’s best comedy series victor, also will get another shot at holding office and, with 17 nominations, was the comedy leader.
Black-ish star Anderson, who got his second nod, will be competing with last years victor, Jeffrey Tambor of Transparent, along with Ansari, Will Forte for The Last Man on Earth, William H. Macy for Shameless and Thomas Middleditch for Silicon Valley.. Henson would be only the second African American actress to pick up prize.
Malek and Rhys will be competing with Kevin Spacey for House of Cards, Kyle Chandler for Bloodline, Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul and Liev Schreiber for Ray Donovan..
Its competition, in addition to “black-ish”, “Master of None” and “Transparent“, includes HBO’s “Silicon Valley”, ABC’s “Modern Family” and Netflix’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”.
HBO’s political satire “Veep” led the comedy race with 17 nominations, including a nod for best actress for Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will. Although the Emmys can’t claim the steroid effect that an Oscar can have on a film’s box-office performance, the premiere TV award draws attention to shows trying to stand out in a packed media world. In 1941, the brand-new George Foster Peabody Awards declared its first slate of winners – all for radio.
He has previously won two Emmy awards in this category, his first in 2012 and his second past year. Like Angela Lansbury, who was nominated 18 times with nary a win.

Nor do they care about the many arcane Emmy categories like “outstanding production design for a narrative period program”.
