Von Miller and Denver Broncos strike deal

Miller, who skipped out on all of the Broncos offseason practices, said he’s excited to “get back to work”.

The team’s previous offer made in June included $39.8 million guaranteed in the first two years, with $38.5 million at signing and $1.3 million in workout bonuses. It was expected Miller was going to get a lot of money, but what helped him in his negotiations was the contract Fletcher Cox signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Super Bowl MVP Von Miller practiced both pirouettes and patience this offseason. “We are confident that he will learn from this matter and that he understands what is expected of him moving forward”. But the two sides tried, with some starts and stops, to negotiate a long-term deal after the scouting combine in February.

If he had failed to work out a long-term deal by Friday that designation would have called for him to play one year with Denver at $14.129 million – although he insisted he wouldn’t play in 2016 without a new contract. If Miller gets hurt or plays poorly this upcoming season, it would likely hurt his chances of scoring a bigger deal next season. He told Branion the Broncos would not be trading Miller and the team’s offer stood as is.

The NFL Network reported that Wilkerson’s deal is for five years and approximately $85 million. His $70 million in guarantees is second only to newly re-signed Colts quarterback Andrew Luck. It is also the richest contract at any position other than quarterback. Amerson originally signed a four-year, $3.85 million deal coming out of North Carolina State.

This week, Houston’s deal – six years, $101 million with $52.5 million in guarantees – was blown out of the water, the Suh and Cox deals were surpassed, and Luck was Miller’s only true competition. The New York Jets and defenseman end Muhammad Wilkerson also reached agreement on a long-term contract. But he made no secret of his anger, even cropping Elway out of a picture taken at the White House and posting it on social media.

But the Broncos were under no obligation to pay, and could have placed the franchise tag on their star man.

Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker agreed to a four-year contract after being designated the team’s franchise player. “I’m happy. I’m in the best shape of my life, and I know if it doesn’t happen this year, it’s probably something I have to deal with”.

Miller, the Broncos’ first-round pick in 2011, has 60 sacks in five seasons and played a key role on last season’s league-leading defense. He had 11 sacks, four forced fumbles, 35 tackles in the regular season previous year and had five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception in the playoffs, Fox Sports noted.

The decision by the four-time Super Bowl champion comes two days after his case was turned aside by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. He missed seven games last season with injuries, but still led the team with 54 catches and 807 receiving yards while scoring four touchdowns.
