Von Miller Might Turn Down $70 Million Guaranteed Later Today

The deal makes the 27-year-old Miller the highest-paid defensive player by average at just over $US19 million ($A25 million) per year. After the second year he will get $61 million guaranteed and he will get $70 million guaranteed after the third year.

As the deadline for a long-term deal fast approaches, the Denver Broncos are no longer playing games with Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller.

Miller would turn to Twitter, saying there is: “No Chance I play the 2016 season under the Franchise tag”.

The Denver Broncos linebacker won’t have to worry about Von Miller sitting out on his franchise tag. He reached what Broncos coach Gary Kubiak called a “dominant level” of play in a postseason run that included a five sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception in the team’s three postseason games.

Miller’s contract situation was highly talked about, and with this latest news, the doubts of Miller re-signing with the Broncos after the Super Bowl were as real as can be. A day later, Miller, who skipped the offseason program, will join his teammates on the field for the first time since the Super Bowl.

It’s a major financial commitment from the Broncos to Miller, who might have cashed in a year earlier had he not been suspended six games in 2013 for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and later tearing an anterior cruciate ligament after returning that season. “I am so appreciative and grateful for this opportunity”, Miller said in a statement via USA Today.

Now that Miller is well paid he has to go out and stay healthy, motivated and help the Broncos try to repeat after the loss of future Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning announced his retirement.

But, Elway is one of the best general managers in the NFL and recognized that Miller is one of the most gifted athletes in the league.

“I’m happy that both sides were able to broker a deal that works for both sides”, Branion told The Associated Press. In four National Football League seasons, Johnson has 15 interceptions, including seven past year. He made his fourth Pro Bowl and the Chiefs made the playoffs.

As a practical matter, Miller is likely guaranteed to make at least $78 million under the contract. As recently as two days ago, it seemed as though Miller would consider sitting out the season if things were not resolved. Both sides knew they needed each other, but the Broncos especially knew they needed Miller because they do not have a player to match his production.

The final agreement comes after several months of contentious-and public-negotiations that had the organization set to apply the “franchise tag” to the four-time Pro Bowler, which would’ve secured him for a one-year contract for about $14 million.
