Myers hits 20th homer, Padres beat Bumgarner, Giants 4-1

The San Francisco Giants start what they hope is a long second half when they face the San Diego Padres on Friday night at Petco Park.

“I guess we’ll take it any way we can”, San Diego’s Travis Jankowski said. The 23-year-old is set to make his eighth career start and first against the Giants after facing them twice in relief earlier this season.WALK-OFFS1.

The Giants drew even in the second inning when Brandon Crawford tagged an opposite-field double and scored on Conor Gillaspie’s single. Then with the winning run at third base, he lost his footing and tried desperately to deliver a pitch as he staggered toward the plate.

“He just stumbled, caught a spike when he put his foot down”.

“We asked Cashner to get away from his sinker tonight”, continued Green.

“It looked like he was a little discombobulated there on the balk”, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. Pence hit a homer in the minors, texted Bochy a message along the lines of I am a ridiculous weapon, caught a flight the next day to rejoin the team in Cincinnati… and hit a homer against the Reds.

The Giants got that one back in the top of the second. The organization said it was working hard with ESPN Deportes to resolve this situation as quickly as possible to get games with Erwin Higueros and Tito Fuentes back on the air. Undergoing a procedure on the injured leg just two days later, Pence was initially diagnosed with a strained right hamstring. “I thought I heard somebody say something”.

“I was living on every pitch, trust me”, Bochy said. But any way we can do it, though, right?

Buster Posey had sent up a rescue flare with his home run in the top of the 10th – the first of his decorated career in extra innings. The Giants are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in San Diego.

Alex Dickerson and Derek Norris promptly singled off right-hander Santiago Casilla and Adam Rosales pushed a run-scoring single past a diving Brandon Crawford for the Padres’ first run since Schimpf’s run-scoring triple off the wall in right-center in the third.

The next inning, Villanueva gave up solo homers to pinch-hitter Mac Williamson and Pena to waste what looked like a short but sweet Major League debut for Buddy Baumann.

San Diego had the bases loaded and one out in the seventh but failed to score.

Cain threw 93 pitches while striking out two and issuing three walks. Jankowski stole third and Posey threw the ball into left field for an error that brought in a run. He’s 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA in three outings after a late start to his season following 2015 Tommy John surgery.

Samardzija allowed five runs, four earned, and five hits in five innings.

Green pulled Perdomo with two outs in the fifth after he allowed Posey’s RBI double to pull the Giants to 5-3. Padres 2B Cory Spangenberg suffered an additional tear to his left quad muscle, an injury that has kept him on the disabled list since April 19.

Bumgarner quickly struck out, glared at the mound and gave up the Myers homer the next half-inning.

Padres: RHP Edwin Jackson, who hasn’t started in two years, will be promoted from Triple-A El Paso to start Sunday.

The Giants have contributed to Cashner, who was once traded Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, having a shoddy season.
