The schools featured in The 380 Best Colleges-our picks of the cream of the crop colleges and universities-comprise only the top 15 percent of all four-year colleges in the nation.

The Princeton Review asks students attending the schools to rate their own schools on several issues – from the accessibility of their professors to the quality of their science lab facilities – and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life.

At Knox, “admission standards are high, and prospective students are viewed both qualitatively and quantitatively”, writes staff of The Princeton Review in its detail section on the College. While our objective is not to crown one college academically “best” overall or to rank the schools 1 to 380 on any single topic, our lists provide direct student feedback on the schools’ campus culture, program offerings and cost. Rankings are based exclusively on student comments, while numerical ratings are based on data about each school along with comments from students.

Phyllis Wise, chancellor at Urbana-Champaign, slammed the ranking, calling it a “promotion for the Princeton Review” in a statement, but said it presented an opportunity for university officials to discuss safety with students and parents.

The 125 colleges that The Princeton Review chose for its “Best in the West” 2016 list are located in fifteen states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
