Black Lives Matter activists organize Manchester march
Five police officers were also shot and killed at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas, Texas. The protest was peaceful, sending positive messages to people gathered. The group then marched to Commercial Street, where they formed a circle and refused to leave, shutting down the roadway for several hours.

According to The Hill, Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson attended a meeting with President Obama which was created to help mend frayed ties between law enforcement and the communities they serve. “When there’s injustice anywhere, against anybody – whether they’re black or white or a woman, a lesbian or gay person – it’s injustice everywhere, and in this country, we ought to respond and we ought to react and we ought to speak out”. Blacks are shot at a much lower rate than other races when you compare it to contacts with police and law enforcement will be making contact with more blacks because they commit over half of all violent crime in America. Chief Sauschuck said there is a subcommittee that has been around for about 15 years.
KPD Captain Mike Kirkwood says most of his police officers will already be at cruise night but to ensure safety there will be an officer at the protest as well. The commitment and professionalism shown by every member of the Portland Police Department is a tremendous example of what makes this city great.

Both police agencies said they supported the demonstrators’ right to protest.
