Jose Mourinho on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly’s game against Wigan Athletic
Speaking to MUTV before goals from Will Keane and Andreas Pereira toppled Championship new boys Wigan, Mourinho, who handed United debuts to summer signings Eric Bailly and Henrikh Mkhitaryan during his first game in charge, said of Shaw’s recovery: “The worst thing in football is long-term injuries. I think day by day it will be better”.

“I will give him everything to try to make him better and better and better like I did previously with other very young central defenders I had in my hands, like for example [Raphael] Varane”. They were unbelievable. For the first time in my career to see that support in a friendly….it was like a crucial Premier League match.
“You have to get to know your team-mates and their qualities, so I am trying to learn everything very quickly. Of course we’re getting ready for the new season so we are trying to do everything the coach is asking”.
“I want to show the manager, to show the people around the club, to show the players that I can help this season. He doesn’t have the sharpness yet but his performance was very positive”.
The 23-year-old played in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Wigan, as he continues the process of trying to impress Jose Mourinho and earn his spot in the starting line-up in the upcoming season. “He has showed the potential we saw when we made a decision to buy him”.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is keen to overcome new signing Eric Bailly’s language struggles by playing him regularly throughout pre-season. Manchester United are rising again, and it will be players like Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan led by Mourinho that will do just that!
