Donald Trump condemns police shootings

The shooting deaths of three law enforcement officers, with three more injured, came in Baton Rouge – a city already on edge after an African-American man recently was shot and killed by police.

One suspect was killed and two others might still be at large, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office.

Since the shooting in Dallas, police have been on high alert.

While the scene of the shootings was contained, police warned residents to stay away from the area.

A sheriff’s spokesman in Baton Rouge also said that one suspect is dead and two others are believed to be at large.

Police-community relations in Baton Rouge have been especially tense since the death of 37-year-old Alton Sterling, a black man killed by white officers July 5 after a scuffle at a convenience store. The killing was captured on cellphone video and circulated widely on the internet.

Trump struck a similar tone after a shooter in Dallas, Texas, gunned down five police officers earlier this month, urging unity in the face of attacks on officers.
