Fox News and Gingrich suspend contributor agreement over VP speculation

Hannity has long pushed for Gingrich to be placed on the ticket.

“With an untethered attack animal such as former Speaker Gingrich on his ticket, Trump can set down his Twitter account and start behaving presidential”, says John Gizzi, chief political columnist at Newsmax. She’s now working for the Trump campaign. “That I can tell you”. So the possibility of a Gingrich pick has Trump’s typically-loyal white supremacists on edge.

“The trick to this, of course, is always to run and look like you’re not running for vice president”, said a source with knowledge of Trump’s thought process surrounding the decision.

Trump has stoked the media feeding frenzy surrounding Gingrich, telling rally crowds that the former speaker would have a natural advantage in a vice-presidential debate. One of the names – former House Speaker Newt Gingrich – has been the focus of a great deal of attention after the two appeared together at a campaign stop in Cincinnati. He said Pence’s relationships within the Republican establishment would allow Trump to unite the party, while Gingrich offers television skills and appeal to the base. Gingrich was brought on as a FOX News contributor in October 2015 after being a CNN contributor before that.

This is not the first time Gingrich has been suspended by Fox: back in 2011, when he was nearing the launch of his own presidential bid in 2012, the network suspended him and fellow 2012 hopeful Rick Santorum. Others being considered are New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence. He was a CNN political commentator until joining Fox past year.

“We’ve come a fair distance – we have a black mayor of Atlanta, and have had a series of them”, added Gingrich, who spent his high school years in a segregated part of Georgia. Trump is seen as standing up to people in power much like Gingrich was in his 2012 campaign.

Some in Trump’s circle fear that deploying Gingrich against Hillary Clinton would ignite a backward-looking replay of 1990s dramas, when Gingrich pushed for Bill Clinton’s impeachment. It has a certain ring to it, especially if you are Mr. Gingrich.

Gingrich noted his studies – he has a doctorate in history – and said he knew of no example in American history of a moment and a leader like Trump.
