Ryan to Clapper: Deny Clinton access to confidential info after DNC convention

“There is no legal requirement for you to provide Secretary Clinton with classified information, and it would send the wrong signal to all those charged with safeguarding our nation’s secrets if you choose to provide her access to this information despite the FBI’s findings”, Ryan wrote to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Wednesday.

Comey’s recommendation was met with considerable skepticism by committee Republicans. But he suggested that Comey had contributed to that by leaving “a perceived gap” between his public criticism of Clinton and his conclusion not to prosecute. The interview, coming after the report, is unnecessary and excessive, Democrats said.

Injustice is injustice. And the failure of our government to effectuate it in Clinton’s case isn’t merely deplorable – it is clear and compelling evidence of a systemic, anti-American bias that has infected far too many of our government institutions.

Comey said his staff told him that Petraeus didn’t hide materials in his attic insulation, but that investigators found classified material in an unlocked drawer of a desk in a ground-floor study. Petraeus, Comey said, retained a “vast quantity” of classified information and lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about it.

In his statement on Tuesday, Comey said “the context of a person’s actions” mattered in deciding to prosecute. “Given the FBI’s findings, denying Secretary Clinton access to classified information certainly constitutes appropriate sanctions”.

Comey laid out the extreme carelessness Clinton and her flunkies took with USA secrets.

TIM WALBERG: So Secretary Clinton’s revised statement that she never knowingly sent or received any classified information is probably also untrue?

Comey answered, “I’m not – I hope I’m giving a consistent – I’m not saying what the answer would be, I’m saying that would be an important consideration in a suitability determination for anybody”.

“Secretary Clinton said all work-related emails were returned to the State Department”, Gowdy said.

Mr. Hurd asked what was protecting the server, given that the investigation showed that at least seven chains of emails were classified at that level.

Comey on Tuesday wrapped up a year-long probe of Clinton by announcing that while she was careless when she used a personal email server during her tenure in the State Department, there was no evidence she committed a crime and that he would recommend to the Justice Department that no charges be filed.

She is the Teflon candidate: Whatever impropriety she commits she is absolved of through deceit, lies and political power.

House Republicans wasted no time in putting FBI Director, James Comey on the hot seat.

“That’s just the way it is”, Comey said. “It is very rare that you work with a gentleman who is completely that”.

He, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and other Republicans repeatedly and effectively hammered Clinton simply by restating the facts of the case.

The hearing, held by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, was at times confrontational and accusatory, which was predictable given the enormous specter of the ongoing 2016 presidential campaign hanging over the proceedings.

Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said, “I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email, there is no classified material”. “I did not coordinate that (announcement) with anyone”.

“Comey’s decision was seen in many quarters as a punt”. At Thursday’s hearing, he acknowledged again the widespread scrutiny that’s come in the wake of the case’s resolution. Comey said it was not.
