Cummings Struggles to Defend Clinton’s Email Conduct

FBI Director James Comey said this week there weren’t grounds to prosecute Clinton but that she and her aides had been “extremely careless” in their handling of classified information.

Whereas Ms. Lynch will face the email examination at the House Judiciary Committee in connection with her meeting with former President Bill Clinton Prior her appointment with the FBI Director James Comey.

A number of Republicans suggested there was a double standard for charging everyday people accused of crimes as opposed to high-level people like Clinton.

In lengthier comments before lawmakers on Thursday, Comey again spoke of Clinton’s and her staff’s carelessness and “real sloppiness”, adding that it seemed she was not “particularly sophisticated with respect to classified information”. Despite her lies to the contrary, Clinton had to know some of it was indeed top-secret stuff and, said Comey, she had to know something else – that the sloppy system she was using was “no place” for the communications in which she was engaged. I bet you were surprised when you heard the twisted logic coming from Comey that was used to keep Hillary Clinton safe from prosecution.

Mr Comey specifically rebutted a litany of Republican charges including that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been biased, ignored the law, applied it unjustly or co-ordinated the decision with Mrs Clinton’s campaign.

In almost five hours of testimony, Comey sought to explain the Justice Department’s decision ending an investigation that has dogged Clinton’s presidential campaign and raised fresh questions among voters about her trustworthiness.

“The FBI director himself just said that even though all this mishandling and reckless behavior occurred, compromising sensitive, classified material, he didn’t recommend criminal penalties but he did recommend administrative penalties. typically what happens in this case, that person’s cut off”, said Ryan. “Sometimes they have a great capacity to hear the truth”.

The Republican National Committee said in an email to reporters that Clinton “continued to misrepresent the facts about her email scandal and refused to commit to cooperating with a rekindled State Department probe into her handling of classified material”.

“For example”, Comey said in his report, “seven email chains concern matters that were classified at the Top Secret/Special Access Program level when they were sent and received”.

Speaker Ryan says that Clinton can’t be trusted – and that she should be “cut off”.

Clinton has been under fire from Republicans this week after Comey announced that she mismanaged classified material.

He did not respond to questions about Mr. Comey’s rebuttal of the main arguments Mrs. Clinton has offered in defense of her use of private email.

“No, we found work-related emails, thousands that were not returned”, Comey said. It was unclear what clarification Mrs Clinton was referring to.

Comey proved his independence during the George W. Bush administration when, as deputy attorney general, he headed off White House officials’ hospital room efforts to persuade then-Attorney General John Ashcroft to reauthorize a domestic surveillance program.
