It took less than a day from the introduction for Pokemon Go to become the most downloaded and highest-grossing app in the countries where it is available, according to market-data provider App Annie.
Even though it’s only officially available in six markets, including the US, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy, Pokemon Go is played unofficially in other regions of the world as well.
Of course, it would have been good to invest before the launch of Pokemon Go.
In the meantime, Nintendo and Pokemon Company apparently prefers that gamers invest in the Pokemon Go Plus hardware, which is compatible to both iOS and Android, and costs $35, instead of buying a new Apple Watch.
The developers the game deems it more lucrative to launch their own affordable hardware, instead of banking on the Apple Watch.
An app that began as an April Fools joke has become a worldwide phenomenon, achieving more than 15 million downloads in the space of a week, and an estimated $1.6 million daily in revenues.
What about the Android users? When Niantic was part of Google, it had developed a game called Ingress which is also a map based reality game. However, the strength of Alphabet companies is in technology development, and the company is able to monetize its technology through partnerships with other companies. Niantic now has eight corporate sponsors for Ingress globally, including SoftBank Group Corp, and the number is likely to be similar for Pokemon Go, he said.
