Kim Copeland, Sean’s wife and Brodie’s mother, survived, as did two other
siblings, Maegan, 29, and Austin, 22. The attacker would run through the crowd as everyone scattered to safety. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) said, “We are lifting the Copeland family up in prayer, along with all of the victims who are suffering because of this heinous act of terror”.

Sean and Brodie Copeland’s visit to the coastal city was part of a family vacation to Spain and France. “It’s the only words I can think of”. Brodie had been a student at Folsom Elementary in Prosper ISD. He was an admired student, a “superstar” who “bursted with talent”, Serfoss said. Superintendent Brad Lancaster said the district will make counselors available to students possibly as early as Monday.

Ms. Serfoss said Brodie had big dreams and aspirations and wanted to be an actor when he grew up. He was also considered an “ace” on the baseball field and a joyful boy with a talent for acting. “And that’s the message we’ve got to get out and to me that’s the Brodie message”, Harlow said. Brodie had recently quit playing football to focus more on baseball.

The BBC said another French victim was Robert Marchand, a 60-year-old industrial supervisor from Marcigny, a small, rural town in eastern France, who was a parent and a coach at an athletics club.

He said in a statement that Brodie was a one-of-a-kind kid, “popular, funny, mature and fun to be around”.

Officials have identified the suspect 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, who was born in Tunisia but lived in Nice with his wife and worked as a delivery driver.

Jess Davis, who is friends with Meagan Copeland, Sean Copeland’s daughter, issued a statement on the family’s behalf saying, “We are heartbroken and in shock over the loss of Brodie Copeland, an unbelievable son and brother who lit up our lives, and Sean Copeland, a wonderful husband and father”.

“We’ve been contacting all the entities there”, said the woman, who declined to give her name.

In a second statement released by Davis on Friday evening, the Copeland family said they were thankful for the support and prayers they have received from friends and strangers. He was the vice president of North and South America for Lexmark’s Kapow Software Division.

An American father and son were among those killed in the attack in Nice, it has emerged. Lexmark spokesman Jerry Grasso said Copeland was “a terrific leader” and a phenomenal person.
