WWE also tests athletes as part of its own wellness program, but it’s unclear if Lesnar’s positive drug test from USADA would have any bearing on his professional wrestling career. If he doesn’t receive it, Hunt will ask for his release from UFC.
A statement released by the UFC says the results of the test, which was taken on June 28 and two weeks before his fight with Hunt, were returned on July 14 and he will be afforded a “full fair legal review process”. The 38-year-old South Dakota native earned a record $2.5m purse for the three-round points win, with all three judges handing down scores of 29-28.
According to the statement made by the UFC officials, the USADA will be handling the management of the results acquired and the proper judgement of the case.
Following Lesnar’s response to his doping violation, USADA spokesperson Ryan Madden confirmed that the WWE star will undergo the full process that is needed to be carried out following a doping violaation.
If Lesnar, 39, is found guilty of deliberately taking prohibited substances, he we will banned from fighting for two years.
Despite the potential violation, the UFC noted that Lesnar, like any other accused athlete, would be given due process.
“I’ve been dealing with that my entire life”, Lesnar said on a media conference call days before UFC 200.
Lesnar was given permission by WWE to return to UFC for one fight and he had no other future fights scheduled.
Lesnar issued a very brief statement on Friday evening to the Associated Press. “The UFC is basically saying if you cheat you won’t be penalised”.
