Protests and a party to open the Republican National Convention

Donald Trump once promised a “showbiz” convention, packed with flash, celebrities and a “winner’s night” featuring sports stars and champion coaches.

Trump’s choice of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate was overshadowed by a terror attack in France and attempted coup in Turkey. Trump, though, is already well known, and already widely disliked.

Roads in the OH city are lined with concrete barriers and helicopters patrol overhead, as light aircraft, paid for by sponsors, trail anti-Hillary Clinton slogans.

“The bonds between our communities and police must be reset and rebuilt – as we’re doing in OH – so our communities and officers can both be safe”.

Police officers block off a road near the site of a shooting of police in Baton Rouge on Sunday. The convention closes on Thursday with the theme of “Make America One Again”. Personality-wise he’s totally different from Donald Trump. But he added that the convention gives state Republicans a chance to network and build bridges beyond just the presidential contest.

Despite the predictable fanfare and excitement surrounding the 2016 Republican National Convention, however, this year, the event is also expected to attract a record number of protestors, reported the New York Times. And there is sure to be an extra element of drama to the roll call of the states meant to deliver the nomination to Trump.

Many of them also are part of the tax plan proposed in September 2015 by presumptive Republican nominee Donald J. Trump. And even if they do, it’s a vote they seem very likely to lose.

The planned protests will focus on a wide variety of agendas, including a coalition planning to hold a “Shut Down Trump at the RNC” march, as well as mass protests organized by Black Lives Matter and the New Black Panther Movement that will take place outside of the Republican National Convention Hall. Priebus said that the GOP had become far too insular – a party of largely angry white men – and needed to become more inclusive and reach out to Hispanics and other minority voters.

Republican Donald Trump is blaming a “lack of leadership” for Sunday’s shooting of police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Authorities have erected 8-foot-tall (2.5-meter) metal fencing around Quicken Loans Arena, closed off streets and deployed thousands of armed police officers.

Cleveland is preparing to welcome as many as 50,000 people with an additional 5,000 members of law enforcement to keep watch.

“I’d love to be there when my wife speaks”, Trump said this morning in an interview with “Fox and Friends”.

The only living GOP nominee who will be attending is Bob Dole, who failed to defeat President Bill Clinton in 1996.

Barbour told CBS “Face the Nation” that Republicans should be supporting their nominee.

It’s easy to take the big states for granted this year: Consistency has made them unworthy of much attention.

Priebus says Trump is calling for a temporary ban on immigration from countries that harbor and train terrorists until the USA has a better vetting system. “I know they come when we need them”, one delegate said.

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week”, Johnson says that includes the protests expected to begin as the convention opens Monday.

Not every conservative luminary will be making a pilgrimage to Cleveland for this week’s Republican National Convention.

Under the law in OH and many other states, people have a legal right to openly carry rifles and other long guns.

Trump said at a rally earlier this month in North Carolina: “We need unity in the Republican Party – and I have to be honest, I think I can win without the unity, but we need it”. “We demand law and order”, said the Republican nominee in a statement that is a shot across the bow against Obama and is certain to only incite greater animosity.

Six of the seven presidential ballots after that 1976 race had a Texan named Bush in either the first or second spot.

Pointing to Trump’s 67-county sweep in the April Republican primary here, Scaringi predicted the same grassroots Republicans that carried him to victory then, will – joined by like-minded independent and Democratic voters – carry the state for the GOP in the fall.

Trump’s campaign dismissed the effort.

Last spring, Trump repeatedly blasted the 2012 GOP convention as “the single most boring” he’d ever seen.
