Furyk builds big lead at Firestone
Most of golf’s top players are at the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational this week at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, as a final tuneup for next week’s PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

Danny Lee has relinquished his lead at the lucrative WGC-Bridgestone Invitational with a two-over 72 during the second round of the PGA Tour event.
To his credit Garcia bounced straight back with a birdie from 12 feet on the 17th, but at three over par was six shots off the lead shared by playing partners Rickie Fowler and Jason Day.
His round of six birdies and four bogeys included a 20-foot chip-in for birdie at the par-four third which got him to three under. “It’s one of my favorite courses we play”. No. Its another year and opportunity, and were only halfway.
Jim Furyk also had a 66 that was far less imperative. So he happily went along at Firestone South in Akron, Ohio, making five birdies in 10 holes on his way to a 4-under-par 66. At various times I was very well placed, but dropped shots and gave away those gains.
The good news for Spieth?
“Masters and U.S. Open champion Jordan Spieth, the world number two and highest-ranked player in the field in the absence of the injured Rory McIlroy, was among the day’s late starters”.
Johnson is hoping to add to a strong season that includes seven top-10 finishes and his last two victories came in World Golf Championships-the 2013 HSBC Champions in China and the Cadillac Championship at Doral in March. “I’ll let go of what happened today and just go out and play (tomorrow)”.
Furyk, 45, always seems to be in contention at this event as he has finished in the top-15 at the WGC-Bridgestone four of the past five years.
But he recently read a story that mentioned the amount of scars that golfers suffer from losing and how much it affects them. “Shouldn’t be an issue to get there and see it”, he said. The Bus has been supporting Furyk’s golf tournament and foundation over the years, and Furyk received an invitation to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night in Canton. Walking up the fourth fairway, he said he told his caddie, “I need to get a little bit inspired right now”. “I figured it would be a great, great thing to do to take the kids to see, and they’re up here with me”.
Furyk said he also plans to attend Sunday’s exhibition game between the Steelers and Minnesota Vikings, which kicks off at 8 p.m.

“It’s a battle, but it’s one that I’m looking forward to because I’m not out of it”, he said.
