Andy Murray: Best is yet to come – Wimbledon champion

The world ranked number 2 defeated world ranked number 6 Canadian player Milos Raonic in the final and it wasn’t an easy match: 6-4 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-2) and Murray was pushed all the way by his opponent.

“You can’t forget what he has done in the last 18 months or so”.

After the tension of his first Wimbledon final victory against Novak Djokovic, this was a much more serene affair as Murray cruised to the title with an nearly flawless display.

While Djokovic is showing no sign of vulnerability despite his shocking third-round exit in Wimbledon, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have been struggling with injuries and consistency.

Andy Murray exults after winning the men’s singles title of Wimbledon 2016. “I’m going to try to get myself back in this position, try to be better in this position”, he said, reported Reuters. I’ve learnt not to be afraid of failing.

‘Andy has worked so hard for this success and reaching an 11th Grand Slam final was an incredible achievement and I believe he deserves to have won more than the three he has collected.

“I just want to keep try and keep winning more if I can. It was a long time before I started feeling good again but I don’t see that being an issue this time”. “Last time, it was just pure relief, and I didn’t really enjoy the moment as much, whereas I’m going to make sure I enjoy this one”.

‘To do it twice here, an event where there is a lot of pressure on me to perform well, I am very proud with how I have handled that over the years’.

This is evident from the fact that despite having 10 wins against Djokovic from 34 career meetings, Murray has won only two of their last 15 battles on court ever since the Wimbledon triumph in 2013.

“I just need to take a few days off at some stage over the next few weeks because I maybe messed up a little bit previous year”. But Djokovic retains a huge lead and it would take a highly unlikely set of results for Murray to be within range this year.

“If there was another tournament this weekend – unless maybe a Slam or the Olympics – there’s no way I would play”.
