Taco Bell employee fired after denying service to deputies

“My husband is a Deputy Sheriff in Lee County, Alabama and tonight a Deputy on his shift went into Taco Bell in Phenix City, AL and was told that they don’t serve cops”. Instead of taking their order, a cashier told the deputies that because they were police they would not be served. She alleges she then entered the store and “attempted to get the attention of the employees therein, but each and every one of them simply ignored her. She left without being served”.

“These are merely places where the victims were employed”, she said. “We’re not going to serve you and you need to leave'”.

“In the course of the investigation at the Taco Bell in Phenix City, Tacala, the franchise owner of that location, has terminated the employee who refused service to two Lee County Deputies on July 16th”, Nedbal said in a second email to the Opelika-Auburn News.

“Taco Bell and Tacala, the franchise owner of the Phenix City Taco Bell, in no way endorse this sentiment”, she said in a statement.

By Sunday night, the employee was sacked, the Ledger-Enquirer reported.

“We try to give people basic respect, and we expect that in return”, Jones said.

The wife of one Lee County sheriff’s deputy shared the story Saturday night on Facebook, saying her husband’s colleagues were told by the Taco Bell employee that “they don’t serve cops”.

But the district manager for Taco Bell said that it isn’t the company policy and promised that it would be dealt with.

Jones said he would handle all inquiries about the incident.

Jones said he doesn’t think anyone should judge the company based off of one person’s actions.

He said he was appreciative of all of the support the department has received since the incident.

Tacala will be reaching out to the deputies directly, Nedbal said.

“They work from the heart…” “The likelihood that patrons of these food establishments will become infected is very low, but to prevent possible additional cases, we are notifying the public so they may seek advice and help from their health care providers”.
