Jacob deGrom was dominant after getting extra rest this week.

DeGrom allowed just one hit and produced the most masterful performance of his career to lift the Mets to a 5-0 win over the Phillies on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. DeGrom, who has fanned at least six in 10 straight starts, faced one batter over the minimum. “In his last four starts, his velocity has started to creep up”.
“One hundred and sixty-two games is a lot, and we’re over halfway through”, deGrom said.

Curtis Granderson hit his 16th homer of the year, a mammoth blast that landed in the bullpen in rightcenter. DeGrom allowed only two baserunners in the game.
After an uneven start to the season because of lat tightness and a medical issue with his newborn son, deGrom (6-4) arguably has reemerged as the most reliable member of the Mets’ rotation.
Catcher Rene Rivera said he knew in the first inning that deGrom was capable of a dynamite outing, and Collins said deGrom had his best sinker of the season. Jose Reyes hit an RBI double in the 5th inning.
“Every time you go out there you want to go as long as you can”, deGrom said.
“We’re not taking care of opportunities”, manager Terry Collins said.
Opposing pitcher Zach Elfin singled in the third inning to become the Phillies’ first baserunner of the game.
Boston’s six-match winning run was ended courtesy of a three-run fourth inning, with RBIs coming from Starlin Castro, Austin Romine and Jacoby Ellsbury.
“For some reason, every time I went out there, I was just acting like it was the first inning and trying to get three outs and get back in the dugout”, deGrom said. “I had a good two-seam and I was trying to get them to hit ground balls, and I was able to do that early on”.
Asdurbal Cabrera put the icing on the cake for the Mets when he hit a 2 run homer in the 8th inning.
The Mets appeared primed to take the lead in the seventh, but pinch-hitter Kelly Johnson flied out to short left field with runners on second and third and one out before left fielder Cody Asche made an excellent sliding catch for the final out on Asdrubal Cabrera’s sinking liner with the bases loaded.
Roster move: The Mets called up OF Michael Conforto and optioned OF Brandon Nimmo to Triple-A Las Vegas. Conforto was demoted on June 25 after hitting.
“I haven’t really thought about it”, he said. 148 after May 1.
Reyes also doubled home deGrom, who had been hitless in his last 18 at-bats until his two-out single in the fifth. “(Being up) gave me confidence I can do it”.
Stats: DeGrom is 4-0 vs. the Phillies and the Mets have won all seven of his starts against them.
Cespedes was available as a pinch-hitter, but Collins said he went with Johnson because Cespedes couldn’t run the bases in the event of a walk.
