“They didn’t try to get him back on loan and I will not consider it. Not at the moment”, Wenger said.

He said the Chelsea boss threw his medal box up at him after losing 1-0 at Wembley on Sunday.

But according to Cahill, there was not much to choose between the London rivals. “In this second period in England, immediately when I arrived two years ago I looked at them as a very good squad with very good players”.

Mertesacker believes with the addition of veteran keeper Petr Cech, signed for £10million from Chelsea, Arsenal now have assembled a group of players who can last the distance.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s smart first-half strike settled matters at Wembley Stadium and gave Wenger, embarking on his 20th season at the Arsenal helm, a first win over his Portuguese nemesis on the 14th attempt. The last time it faced Chelsea in this particular match was in 2005.

The winger’s powerful finish was Arsenal’s first goal against Chelsea in 506 minutes, and ended the Blues’ eight-match unbeaten run against them.

The sprightlier of the two teams, Arsenal were good value for their win and would have prevailed more comfortably had Thibaut Courtois not produced late saves to thwart Santi Cazorla and Kieran Gibbs.

In fact in three of these years, the Premier League champions have been a team that have not contested the Community Shield, which is promising news for the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in their quests to win the top flight. In this meeting it was outlined that poor behavior and squabbling from club managers and assistants in the technical area will no longer be tolerated and huge fines along with stadium bans may also be sanctioned.

“There was a trophy on the line”, said the 34-year-old, whose side host Swansea on Saturday in their opening Premier League fixture.

Wenger and Mourinho previously put their personal issues to one side at a UEFA coaches forum, but they are feuding again because of the Chelsea manager’s repeated provocation.

“I am always happy with what I have got”, he added. You see the images and see where I am – so to ask is not a fair question.’.

“It’s disappointing because it hasn’t happened too many times since I have been at the club”.
