Slamming the government’s decision to hand over the inquiry to a judicial commission and not to drop George, Opposition BJP Leader Jagadish Shettar said, “The government is insensitive and arrogant”.
ADGP (Intelligence) AM Prasad and IGP (Lokayukta) Pranab Mohanty, were also named by DySP MK Ganapathy before he committed suicide on July 7, are also under the scanner. State Minister George speaking to media persons after his resignation has said that he will take legal recourse and expressed confidence that he will come clean of the allegation.
In his complaint, Nehal had said his father had made a “dying declaration” naming George and the two officers and their acts amounted to “abetting suicide”. “I have voluntarily resigned so that the probe is impartial”, he added. The announcement came after Principal Judicial Magistrate Court in Madikeri directed the police to file FIR against the Minister and two senior police officers.
Nehal’s counsel MT Nanaiah said that the Investigating Officers would have to question George and the two police officers and take a call on whether to arrest them or not depending on their probe. Judicial Magistrate of First Class Court asked the state police to file the formal complaints against two senior police officers in connection with the case, reported ANI.
Opposition parties had been relentless for the last ten days demanding his resignation, after DysP M K Ganapathy gave an interview to a TV channel, holding him and two others responsible for whatever happened to him.
He was found in the uniform hanging by rope to a ceiling fan in the lodge room.
The commission would probe the “circumstances and events” leading to the “unnatural death” of Ganapathy.
