‘Game of Thrones’ nears start on new season
As it turns out, you will be waiting a little while longer to see the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” unearthed over on HBO.

HBO announced filming on the critically acclaimed dramatic series Game of Thrones’ season seven will begin later this summer. Hey, we book fans are still waiting for “The Winds Of Winter”, so we can all survive a few extra months of no Westeros, right?? New episodes are slated to premiere in Summer 2017. In addition, rather than the standard 10 episodes per season, Season 7 will instead have only 7 episodes, presumably followed by another, and likely final, 7 in Season 8.
And the reason for the change? Season seven will be shot largely in Northern Ireland, with additional portions to be filmed in Spain and Iceland. Due to the whole “winter is here” thing at the end of season 6, showrunners aren’t concerned with shooting in sunny locations.
The reduced order comes at a critical time for HBO, which recently promoted Casey Bloys to take over for longtime president of programing Michael Lombardo. HBO has now confirmed that the season will be released next summer, as opposed to the usual April starts. “We’ve pushed everything down the line so we can get some grim grey weather even [in] the sunnier places that we shoot”.
It is believed that season seven of the medieval show is going to be returning to the Nordic nation early next year to shoot scenes for the highly-anticipated forthcoming run.

Last week, the series received 23 Primetime Emmy nominations, the most of any nominee for the third year in a row.
