In the bottom of the 10th against the Padres, Casilla had already blown a one-run lead and had runners at the corners with nobody out as the Padres appeared ready to take the second straight game of the series.

The Giants (57-34) lost for the first time in 10 games against the Padres this season; they were seeking to set a franchise record for consecutive victories against an opponent within a single season.

Jackson was then pulled.

Samardzija allowed two runs and struck out six in 6 1/3 innings against Arizona on July 8 to win for the first time in his last four starts. Giants reliever Santiago Casilla just never looked comfortable all evening, and that was punctuated by his awkward motion that led to a balk being called as he half fell, half stumbled off the mound and threw the ball home from about 50 feet away from home plate.

The 32-year-old was signed to a minor league deal by the Padres on June 20 after being cut by Miami. He was promoted from Triple-A earlier Sunday to start in place of All-Star Drew Pomeranz, who was traded to Boston on Thursday.

Yangervis Solarte hit an RBI double in the first and Matt Kemp had an RBI single in the third for San Diego. “Especially after (Buster) Posey hit that home run”. Either way, walk-off balks are certainly rare, and the Giants suffered a rough loss because of one Saturday.

Cueto allowed home runs to Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez in the second inning of the All-Star Game, which the American League won 4-2. “We’ve got to go out and play good baseball and take it a day at a time and see where we stack up at the end of the season”.

Cueto (13-2) gave up just four home runs over his first 16 starts. He also reached on a fielding error by Crawford.

But the Padres scored in the third on three straight, one-out singles by lead-off hitter Derek Norris, Myers and Matt Kemp, who drove in his 59th run. Alex Dickerson singled to lead off the inning.

“He wasn’t full strength”, manager Bruce Bochy said. In the four innings that Cain pitched, he allowed run totals of 2, 1, and a pair of three spots. From there Ryan Buchter and new closer Brandon Maurer kept the Giants off the scoreboard to complete the sweep. It was Pagan’s fifth homer of the season and his second in his last 30 at-bats.The Padres pushed ahead 3-0 in the second when Schimpf redirected Samardzija’s 95-mph fastball over the left-field fence for his fifth home run of the year.Samardzija struggled with his command in the opening inning and it cost him.

I think you guys know that (walks) frustrate me, Samardzija said.

Padres: Rookie RHP Luis Perdomo (3-4, 7.48) will try to bounce back from a loss in his last start before the break.

San Diego had the bases loaded and one out in the seventh but failed to score. He came out of his rehab game after just three innings and was holding his right hamstring, but he might actually play on Sunday as planned.
