Fans are already coming up with theories about how his deceased character could return, including time travel, suspended animation, artificial intelligence and cloning – all of which could be possible with the technologies available in Star Trek’s cinematic universe.

Don’t expect the USS Enterprise to dock anytime soon as Paramount Pictures has announced the fourth installment of the Star Trek film franchise.
The remaining Star Trek cast, including Zachary Quinto, John Cho and Zoe Saldana, is also expected to return.
Bryan Fuller will be the showrunner on the series, having previously been a writer on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. On the bright side, they will have access to all current and past CBS shows on demand as well as the ability to stream them on their local CBS station live.
“The launch of the new Star Trek will truly be a global television event”, said Armando Nuñez, President and CEO, CBS Studios International. CBS’s new Star Trek TV series which was set to premiere on the network’s digital subscription network CBS All Access in January 2017, will also – thankfully – be available to stream on Netflix in 188 countries 24 hours after the original airing, Netflix announced today. CBS is calling the deal an opportunity for fans around the world to watch the new series “virtually at the same time as viewers in the U.S”.

As part of the agreement, all 727 episodes of the “Star Trek” back catalog, including the original series and spin-offs like “The Next Generation” and “Deep Space Nine”, will be available on Netflix worldwide by the end of this year. “Thanks to our world-class partners at Netflix, the new Star Trek will definitely be “hailing on all frequencies” throughout the planet”.
