Rep. Steve King: ‘Whole White People Business’ Is Getting ‘a Little Tired’
Responding to writer Charlie Pierce’s MSNBC panel comments about “old white people” running the Republican Party, King preached his own race’s supremacy. “Of course, I thought this was going to happen after 2012, but thanks for the good work of Congressman King, I was disappointed”.

“That hall is wired by loud, unhappy, dissatisfied white people”, he added.
“Than white people?” Hayes asked, clarifying.
“This whole business does get a little exhausted”, King says.
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) sparked anger on Monday by asking about which “subgroup” had contributed more to advancements in civilization than white people. “Rep. Steve King wonders what “sub-groups” besides whites made contributions to civilization”, Bump’s headline read.
“Than white people?” MSNBC host Chris Hayes interjected.
“Than Western civilization itself”, King replied.
Trump called his wife “an unbelievable mother, an incredible woman”, and Melania Trump returned the compliment, calling him “an awesome leader” who is kind and “intensely loyal” to his friends, families, and employers.
That’s where King kind of took a step back from his original comment, but not really.
“Let’s argue the history of this country”, Ryan said. “But the entire notion of debating which race/civilization/’sub group” contributed more or is best is as odious as it is preposterous. But I’m proud to say we’re on the side of the Union.
(CHARLIE) PIERCE: Tell you what, in that hall today, that hall is wired. “I’m kind of shaken from that”.
In a Periscope stream after the segment, Ryan said that she was “shaken” by the conversation, which she called “just in-my-face racism”‘.
Controversy swirled around the Iowan again earlier this month after a Confederate flag was seen on his desk, despite his having no known connection to the South and his state’s support of the Union in the Civil War. “It’s not about Harriet Tubman, it’s about keeping the picture on the $20”, King said. You get the picture.
