Apple is fixing a lingering problem with its music matching service built into Apple Music, TechCrunch reported.

This meant that the software would sometimes fail to distinguish between live performances of popular with studio versions, replacing one with the other. Apple will replace that version of iTunes Match with one that uses audio fingerprints to create the correct match.

On the DRM front, tracks in your library which didn’t previously contain DRM will now continue to be DRM-free when you redownload them. Previously Apple was using a less accurate metadata version of iTunes Match on Apple Music, which wouldn’t always match the correct version of a particular song. The only problem is that this feature has been notorious for mismatching songs. For their part, users have to do nothing but wait for a “Matched” to start showing up in the iCloud Status column of iTunes. However, it will now be sent out to all Apple Music subscribers at no additional cost. Exactly what Apple Music is supposed to.

Macworld reports that Apple has been slowly phasing out iTunes Match and integrating its features into Apple Music. Apple is switching over 1% to 2% of its users every day, automatically.

Unfortunately, iTunes Match is a separate $25 a year subscription.

Now, Apple Music subscribers can take advantage of all that stuff without having their own files encumbered in DRM.

Users who had songs matched incorrectly via iTunes Match will see their songs rematched to the correct song thanks to the changes that Apple has implemented, and no downloaded copies of songs will be deleted.

Non-Apple Music users of the iCloud can still pay for an iTunes Match subscription ($30/year), but doubling up is no longer necessary.
