Former officer speaks about serial shooter case

For BreAngela White, the news that her mother Krystal’s death may have been caused by a serial killer opened wounds but also made sense because she could not imagine she was targeted by someone she knew.

Victims’ families are calling for the public’s help in a string of suspected serial shootings in Arizona.

According to CNN, witnesses have described the shooter as a 20-something white or Latino man, and police have released a sketch of the suspect.

Both the police and the FBI are investigating the shootings, and Silent Witness is offering a reward of up to $30,000 to anyone with information. “I remind people that we are a resilient community”, District 5 Councilman Daniel Valenzuela told community members.

City Manager Greg Nyhoff announced Police Chief Jeri Williams has been appointed Police Chief for the City of Phoenix Police Department.

As part of the investigation, police began reviewing all shootings since the start of the year – a process that revealed four more crimes as part of the pattern.

A week later, 19-year-old man Manuel Castro Garcia was fatally shot at 9:30 p.m.in front of his home in 6500 West Coronado.

March 18: At approximately 11:30 p.m., a 21-year-old male was shot while standing in the street outside of his vehicle in the area of 4300 N. 73rd Ave.

Horacio De Jesus Peña, 32, was shot and killed just before 10am on June 3 as he returned from a job helping out at a group home for people with special needs.

The Phoenix Police Department is searching for the person responsible for the following incidents in the Maryvale area: March 17: A 16-year-old was shot while walking around 11… That same person then shot him dead. She held on for nearly a month before succumbing to her injuries on July 7.

Hill is optimistic that police will catch a break in this latest case soon, this after they released a sketch of the possible suspect.

Law enforcement officials believe the Phoenix shootings were committed by the same serial killer, as they all appear to be drive-by incidents, perpetrated by the same suspect, without any clear motive.

The revised list added three non-fatal shootings in addition to the killing of White that police believe are linked, for a total of eight incidents that included seven fatalities.

On April 1, the body of Diego Verdugo-Sanchez was discovered outside his home in the 5500 block of W. Turney Avenue.
