As TMZ previously reported, Smith was arrested earlier this morning and charged with hit and run, DUI and vandalizm. Though Smith denied it was a DUI as he departed jail on Friday morning, the 49ers organization and GM Trent Baalke finally decided enough was enough, releasing him shortly before noon PT the same day.
Following his release, head coach Jim Tomsula met with the media and continually expressed the importance of separating real life issues from the football field.
The promising career of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith might be over following an arrest on Thursday in which he is believed to have been driving under the influence.
In the last three years, Smith has been arrested five times, spent a month in a treatment facility, served a nine-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct and substance abuse policy and has now been released.
Haley has mentored Smith over the years and again offered support upon hearing of Friday s news.
With that being said, should the Oakland Raiders be one of the teams that gives Aldon a look?
“We’re reserving comment until we find out everything that needs to happen in reference to this unwarranted incident”, Sam Taylor, the Oakland, California, company’s chief executive officer, said in a telephone interview. He will not have to walk this path alone. “And if he’s willing to learn, I’ll be there to help him do it. That’s what we all have to do”.
So, imagine the shock during the off-season when Smith was arrested again at Los Angeles worldwide Airport for falsely reporting he had a bomb. Police said that during the party, several shots were discharged, resulting in two of his guests sustaining injury. “I apologize to everybody I did let down and I apologize for how it all played out”. Smith, 25, was the 49ers’ first-round pick in 2011 and is in his contract year. Smith finished with 8 1/2 sacks and 34 tackles in 11 games in 2013.
“I would rather not talk about private conversations”, Tomsula said. “I’m sorry for anybody I let down, I’m sorry for the way this whole thing…” While allegedly breaking up a fight Smith took some stab wounds to his leg. They weren’t serious, and the man responsible was sentenced to three years in jail. Get the help. You dont have to walk alone.
