After outbreak of dissent, Trump powers toward the prize

It was a rare warm moment on a day when Republicans were focusing on what they see as threats to America under a Democratic White House – and when the party’s infighting was on display in a clash between Trump’s supporters and opponents at the Cleveland convention.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager, said the speech was a “collaboration” with speechwriters.

“If you want someone to fight for you and your country, I can assure you, he is the guy”, Mrs Trump said.

In an unusual move for a nominee, Trump appeared on a stage bathed in smoky light to introduce his wife to the sound of Queen’s rock anthem, “We are the Champions”. “We’re going to win so big”. The speeches were also filled with harsh criticism of Democrat Hillary Clinton, with delegates chanting “lock her up”. She stuck close to script delivering her remarks off a telepompter.

Overlooking the fact that the speech was plagiarized, the senior communications adviser for the Trump campaign Jason Miller put out a statement concerning Trump’s word chose: “In writing her handsome speech, Melania’s team of writers took notes on her life’s inspirations, and in some instances included fragments that reflected her own thinking”.

“We deserve to be heard, this is the people’s convention!” said Diana Shores, a delegate from Virginia, while pro-Trump delegates tried to drown out the rebels with shouts of “Shame!” “He does not give up”, she said of her husband, portraying him as a loving father and successful businessman who would be a strong and compassionate president.

There was be an emphasis on the personal, a window into the personality of the presumptive Republican nominee. The Trump campaign will call this a media-created story, but that mashup will be veeeeerrrrrry hard to explain. The Trumps’ adult children have often been more prominent. She is something of a reluctant campaign spouse – preferring to stand by her man, but only making rare, brief cameras at the podium herself. He refuses to endorse Trump and plans to attend various party meetings before leaving town Thursday, the same day Trump is scheduled to speak, WKSU reported. The passages in question focused on lessons that Trump’s wife says she learned from her parents and the relevance of their lessons in her experience as a mother. But the daggers came out quickly on social media. And that speech clocked in at a mere ninety seconds.

Melania is the third Mrs. Trump, following Ivana Trump and Marla Maples, both of whom were also allegedly models of some import, according to Mr. Trump.

Prior to her address Monday night in front of the Republican delegation, the 46-year-old former supermodel had only spoken on Donald Trump’s behalf a handful of times. “That you treat people with respect”, she said, to raucous cheers and applause.

But as she demurs from the spotlight, she is taking a strong behind-the-scenes role. It calls for building a wall. “So here’s my best pollster”.

He added that, “there’s no feeling on her part that she did it”. “That is one reason I fell in love with him to begin with”. He’s an adult. He knows the consequences. I don’t view this as a “Never Trump” effort.

A spokesman for the Trump campaign called the speech a success, but suggested her writers may have mistakenly injected some borrowed language.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, whose administration has been credited with sharply reducing crime in the city during the 1990s and who oversaw the city’s response to the September 11, 2001, attacks that destroyed the World Trade Center and killed nearly 3,000 people, gave a highly charged speech slamming Clinton and making the case for Trump. The Putin-loving general, who a minute ago was being floated as Trump’s veep, has no future in politics.
