It may be hard to believe, but yes, you read that correctly.
“I picture this being more of a backyard, group-of-guys get-together to go have a lot of fun and compete”, LaRoche told The Wichita Eagle.
This makeshift team of retirees, dubbed the Kansas City Stars, was put together by former Major League Baseball players Adam LaRoche and Nate Robertson. He’s also the Stars’ youngest player, and the only one on the team without Major League Baseball experience. “(The roster) just kind of got some legs to it, and here we are”. Their annual World Series has been played at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita since 1935. General admission tickets are $7 and lower sections seats go for $11.
The Kansas Stars will play a minimum of three games in this year’s World Series; Saturday, August 6 at 9:30pm, Monday, August 8 and Wednesday, August 10 both at 7pm. According to the league, the NBC World Series is the third-largest event and the oldest continuous sporting event in Wichita. But back in October of past year, the MINK’s team owners voted to end their relationship with the NBC so they could extend their season and expand their own playoffs.
We can’t wait to see how they do.
If the Stars win the tournament, they told the newspaper that they plan to donate the prize money to charity.
It looks like fans will get a chance to watch Roger Clemens return to the mound again at the age of 53…

As far as LaRoche, Fort Scott’s hometown hero is getting back on the field on his own terms – and simply for the love of the game.
