Alleging that there is a hidden agenda behind the appointment in addition to the illegality and chance of abuse of office, Kummanam’s petition said the appointment is illegal.

Setting all rumours to rest, senior advocate MK Damodaran’s office confirmed to The News Minute that he would not take up the post of legal advisor to the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Not only that the CPI, the second constituent of the LDF, was also against his appointment. He was appointed in “chief minister’s legal advisor post”.
Damodaran was also the counsel for lottery king Santiago Martin in the lottery scam that had broken out in the previous UDF regime.
The opposition parties and political observers has been criticizing the government after Damodaran appeared against the state government in a corruption case against INTUC leader R. Chandrasekharan and quarry owners in another case. “No files have been sent to me till this moment and I am not expected to verify any government files”, Mr. Damodaran, who was the Advocate General during the tenure of the E.K. Nayanar-led government, said. The party is expecting support from other LDF allies on the Damodaran issue when it is taken up at the meeting.
“The Chief Minister has not sought any advice from me on any matter so far”.

In his first public response to the controversy, Mr. Damodaran said he had not called for any government files and not incurred any expense to the government by virtue of the appointment. The appointment will in no way undermine the post of Advocate General, who would render his advice to the State government.
