Pa. correctional officer, inmate dead following altercation

In a story July 18 about the deaths of a correctional officer and an inmate following a brief altercation at a Pennsylvania prison, The Associated Press, relying on information from Luzerne County officials, misidentified the inmate.

A Luzerne County prison guard killed in a Monday night incident inside the Water Street facility has been identified as 25-year-old Kristopher Moules, according to the county Coroner’s Office.

The prison is on lockdown.

Officials declined to offer details about the altercation.

“We will do everything in our power.to make sure an incident like this never occurs again”. Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident, WYOU-TV reported.

Lisman says both men died of multiple traumatic injuries from a fall.

State police and the county DA are investigating.

At a press conference in March, County Councilman Eugene Kelleher questioned the delayed repairs of malfunctioning security cameras and safety concerns raised by at least 10 past and present staffers, the paper reported.

The name of the correctional officer has not been released at the request of the officer’s family.
