On its Heat Health website, the Met Office posted: “There is a 80 % probability of heatwave conditions between 12pm on Monday and 6pm on Thursday in parts of England”.
The county is forecast to bake in temperatures clear of 30C (86F) on Tuesday, while parts of the South East could see temperatures climb as high as 35C (95F) – close to the record for July of 36.7C (98.06F).
The Met Office forecast for Wales tomorrow says it will be sunny through most of the day, very warm, but rather breezy at times.
Health officials have issued warnings as temperatures rise across the United Kingdom – with Cumbria expected to reach 29C tomorrow.
“We urge everyone out enjoying the sunshine to drink plenty of water, stay in the shade to keep cool, cover up, carry any essential medication with them and drink alcohol in moderation”.
“This will lead to widespread hot conditions, with increasing humidity as well”, he said.
And St John Ambulance has also issued advice, urging people to be aware of headaches, dizziness and cramp which can be signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
However, by Wednesday the weather will settle and thundery showers will bring an abrupt end to the heatwave, with “fresher” conditions likely towards the weekend.
“Tomorrow I expect any cloud will have cleared overnight, and there will be clear blue skies throughout the day”.
“Very warm air is pushing north from across the Continent”.
FINALLY it feels like summer is here – as Britons have baked in the hottest temperatures of the year so far.
Common sense measures such as drinking plenty of water, wearing a hat and applying sunscreen are being suggested.
“While many people enjoy hot weather, high temperatures can be unsafe, especially for people who may be particularly vulnerable such as older people, young children and those with serious illnesses”.
Forecaster Grahame Madge said temperatures from London to the West Midlands could reach 34C (93.2F) on Tuesday, before thunderstorms bring up to 50mm of rain and the possibility of flash-flooding – with a weather warning for everywhere north of a line stretching from Bristol to The Wash.
There was also bad news for hayfever sufferers, with pollen levels expected to be high for the next few days.
A Met Office spokesman added: “Very warm, moist air spreading north and northeast across the western side of the United Kingdom is expected to produce thunderstorms later on Tuesday, then transfer eastwards during Wednesday”.
