Williams was a staple at Redskins’ home games, donning a Native American headdress and endearing himself to the organizaion under the moniker Chief Zee.
The Redskins organization put out an official statement earlier today.
Williams was well-known among the fan base and appeared at every Redskins home game.
Redskins defensive end Chris Baker also posted a picture of Chief Zee on his Instagram account with the following caption: “Sad day RIP to a day @Redskins fan Chief Zee your presence will be missed #HTTR4LIFE #HAIL”. He’s been attending games since 1978. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder purchased a motorized scooter that Williams used to get around in his later years.
Fans in recent months created a GoFundMe account to assist with Williams’ with his finances and to help him avoid eviction.
This is how much Williams was loved and respected by Redskins fans: Upon getting the news of his passing, members of ExtremeSkins organized a vigil at Redskins Park to honor the life of Williams.
