“Extended best wishes to @PrakashJavdekar ji who assured that he will build upon the initiatives undertaken by @HRDMinistry in last 2 years”, she said in a series of tweets.
When asked, the newly appointed HRD Minister told reporters that Smriti could not make it to the occasion as she was preoccupied with some other work. Her handling of suicide case of Dalit scholar at Hyderabad Central University, Rohith Vemula, was also criticised by many. The twitter trolls of her as Textile Minister saw many jokes about how she would handle this protfolio.
India lacks innovation in education as children are discouraged from asking questions in schools, something that should not be allowed to continue, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Thursday. Irani earned the tag “Aunty National” – a jibe at her intervention in educational institutions in the name of promoting “nationalism”.
During his tenure, Javadekar was criticized for easing environmental permissions for big industrial and infrastructure projects and diluting the forest protection rights of communities.
Narendra Tomar also took over as the new Rural Development Minister and termed development of villages a necessity for the nation’s development. He stressed on the PM’s pledge to eliminate poverty through his ministry’s work. And to add in it was the way she dealt with them. It may ensure that the PMO’s vision for education may find speedier implementation and mark a turning point in the sector before the 2019 polls.
“The major challenge that is there in the education sector is to raise the standard”.
“The new minister is a good listener but he has inherited several confrontations and mismanagement at the higher education level”, said a Delhi University professor, who declined to be named.

Asked about his elevation as a Cabinet minister, Javadekar said that for taking the responsibility of HRD ministry, “you need to have a Cabinet minister”.
