Family: Father of toddler killed in West Bank arson has died

His 18-month-old son Ali died in the arson attack on July 31.

The father of a Palestinian toddler killed in a firebomb attack blamed on Jewish extremists has died of wounds sustained in the same incident, his family said Saturday.

Saad Dawabsha succumbed in hospital in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba where he was being treated for third degree burns, Palestinian official Ghassan Daghlas said.

Four suspected Jewish settlers set fire to the family’s house in Duma and scrawled graffiti on a wall before fleeing to a neighboring settlement.

“I reiterate the Secretary-General (Ban Ki-moon)’s call for the perpetrators of this heinous terrorist act, which was universally condemned, to be brought swiftly to justice”, he said.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, praised the army’s response to Thursday’s event while accusing the global community of double standards.

“We believe that Mr Allaan’s life is at immediate risk”, wrote Jacques de Maio, head of the ICRC’s delegation in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

A Palestinian official told AFP that before the funeral in the Dawabshas’ home village a post-mortem would be held to provide evidence for a complaint to the worldwide Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

Hebrew graffiti calling for revenge was found at the site of the attack and the government has initiated a clampdown on far-right- wing extremists, promising to use controversial tools such as administrative detention to suppress Jewish terrorism.

In recent years, the United Nations Mine Action Service has worked in Gaza along with local security teams clearing unexploded munitions left over from a series of military confrontations with Israel since 2009.
