Republican Party formally nominates Donald Trump for president
The roll call vote on the nomination is expected Tuesday, with Trump scheduled to close the convention with an acceptance speech Thursday night.

Following his address Tuesday night where he “prosecuted” Hillary Clinton on stage at the RNC, Gov. Chris Christie was quizzed by NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell if an “imperfect messenger” such as himself should be indicting others, referring to the “bridge events”. She was “an apologist” for Boko Haram, somehow responsible for the Nigerian terror group’s kidnapping of hundreds of schoolgirls, he said. Convention speakers relentlessly painted her as entrenched in a system that fails to keep Americans safe.
United for a night, Republicans nominated Donald Trump Tuesday as their presidential standard-bearer, capping the billionaire businessman’s stunning takeover of the GOP and propelling him into a November faceoff with Democrat Hillary Clinton. He says he’s laying out what he says are facts about her to “a jury of her peers”.
“We didn’t disqualify Hillary Clinton to be president of the United States, the facts of her life and career disqualifies her”, Christie said.
Another former Republican presidential candidate, Ben Carson, said Hillary Clinton is promoting a “new world order” that would allow the government in Washington to trample Americans’ freedoms.
Chris Christie fired up the crowd by holding what amounted to a mock trial of Clinton, and the crowd reciprocated by chanting “Lock her up!”
“We have a man who is unafraid”.
He said that America had been made “weak and vulnerable” by its leaders and become a target for “terrorists planning to come here and kill us”.
Amid the assaults on Mr Trump’s opponent, Mr Christie also found time to compliment his own party’s nominee, whom he described as “a strong leader” and a “caring, genuine and decent person… who understands the frustrations and aspirations of fellow citizens”.
Christie, who gave Trump an early endorsement after his failed presidential candidacy, was on the shortlist to be Trump’s running mate.
Mike Pence, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, will today (Wednesday) launch a passionate bid to unite the fractured party after a year of bitter divisions that have thrown its future into doubt. Now, it appears, the Governor of New Jersey has been tamed, trained and unleashed as the Trump campaign’s attack dog.
Jobs and the economy weren’t entirely absent from the speeches.
“Congratulations, Dad, we love you”, declared Donald Trump Jr.
Christie paused for several seconds at it spread throughout the room.

This week’s four-day convention is Trump’s highest-profile opportunity to convince voters that he’s better suited for the presidency than Clinton, who will be nominated at next week’s Democratic gathering.
