The Baton Rouge shooter was armed to the teeth and “extremely accurate” in his ambush that killed three cops and wounded three more. But it must mean we treat each other with respect.

The shooting less than a mile from police headquarters added to tensions across the country between the black community and police.

“We need to temper our words and open our hearts, all of us”.

Military records show Long was a Marine from 2005 to 2010, attaining the rank of sergeant. Long was deployed to Iraq in June 2008 before returning home in January 2009, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Although he was believed to be the only person who fired at officers, authorities were investigating whether he had any help.

While in the Army, he received numerous awards, including four Air Medals, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, three Army Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Army Service Ribbon with two Overseas Service Ribbons and the Combat Action Badge. He was listed as a “data network specialist”.

The name-change document ends: “Standing firm on the Ancient Principles of, LOVE, TRUTH, PEACE, FREEDOM AND JUSTICE”.

Edwards did not address the earlier shooting death in his comments, instead focusing on Sunday’s violence, which he called an “absolutely unspeakable, heinous attack”.

“The UA police had no interactions with him during this time”, Chris Bryant told AFP.

Police did not identify the suspect, but a US government official told Reuters he was Gavin Long, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie Jr. declined to clarify the order in which his police officers died. They did not discuss the gunman’s motive or any relationship to the wider police conflicts.

The shooting began at a gas station on Airline Highway. Colonel Mike Edmonson is head of the Louisiana State Police.

Below is everything we now know about Long.

The radio exchanges were made public Sunday by the website Broadcastify. He would not elaborate but said the shooter was definitely “seeking out” police. The recording lasts about 17 minutes and includes urgent calls for an armored personnel carrier called a BearCat. “It doesn’t further the conversation”.

“It’s like predestination”, said Cavalier, who remembers calling Jackson shortly after he saw the post. He appeared to be running “from an altercation”.

The day of the attack, officials confirmed that officers shot and killed a suspect, but did not officially release his identity. “But I also understand how men like me can fear and distrust officers in uniform”, Williams said. Days before the shooting, Jackson posted a comment on Facebook discussing how he, as an officer in uniform, was getting nasty looks. “I don’t understand how this could happen to someone like him”.

Jackson had a family and recently welcomed a son, the Baton Rouge Advocate reported. A screenshot of the image was circulating widely on the Internet.

Police-community relations in Baton Rouge have been especially tense since Sterling’s death. The incident was captured on video and widely viewed on social media. Large protests against Sterling’s killing followed in Baton Rouge, as well as several other USA cities. The man also discusses the protests in Baton Rouge and what he perceived as oppression. “He wasn’t this type of man”. But the store was closed because of the shooting. “But honestly, you can’t solve violence with violence”. “My hope is that one day soon we can come together and find solutions to the very important issues facing our nation rather than continuing to hurt one another”.

“We as a nation have to be loud and clear that nothing justifies violence on law enforcement”, Obama said in televised remarks. Along the way, the former Marine was posting videos that encouraged the kind of bloodshed that he caused Sunday morning in Louisiana.
