Andy Murray, Roger Federer have opportunity with Djokovic out

“If he plays well, I’m not on my game, I can lose that match”, said Murray.

Czech Berdych ended Frenchman’s Lucas Pouille’s unexpected love-affair with Wimbledon, grinding out a 7-6 6-3 6-2 win to reach his sixth grand slam semi-final.

So great was the 25-year-old’s control of the first two sets that he lost just seven points on his serve during that period and faced no break points, in a display at times reminiscent of Pete Sampras in his heyday.

Murray should be able to handle Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

There were dramatic scenes on the No. 3 Court as the fourth set of Vesely’s clash with No. 10 seed and former Wimbledon finalist Berdych drew to a conclusion.

The world number two looked every inch the title favourite in a 7-5 6-1 6-4 win but Kyrgios lost his focus in the second set and did not give his opponent the test that had been expected.

The match was already two and a half hours old, and Murray immediately found himself fending off deuce in the first game. He’s playing closer to the baseline, dictating a lot of the points.

Wimbledon is now down to the final eight players on the men’s side and today we will find out which four will make the semifinals.

Should an “All Williams” final occur, it would be the first since 2009 when Serena beat Venus in straights sets at Wimbledon.

“The first set was good”.

“It was a tough match”.

Tsonga, whose concentration can blow hot and cold, suffered a let down from the adrenalin-fuelled first set and he sprayed errors off both wings. “I expect to play my best tennis at these events and put a large amount of pressure on myself to do so. Andy was a little better than me on this last set”. Obviously felt like a mountain to climb after losing the first.

“You can learn from the matches that you’ve played against him, see the things that worked well and try to execute that when you play him the next time”.

“At the time, it had been such a long wait that everyone saw that time as being my chance to win Wimbledon and I’ve done that now. I did that today”.

Tsonga’s epic win over Isner lasted two days but the Frenchman was not taxed in his fourth-round match, with countryman Richard Gasquet forced to retire because of a back injury in only the seventh game. Asked if he is applying all he has in his gut and heart to become the best professional he can, Kyrgios bluntly told the reporter: “No”. Even more of you will be at work or school (depending on how quick the preceding match is) and unable to watch this afternoon’s match in the traditional manner. It’s a massive part of my life.

“I knew that he’s not going to back off when we go in the fifth set. I don’t really know”. The biggest news of this year tournament was the defeat of World #1 Novak Djokovic at the hands of American Sam Querrey before the quarterfinal leaving the field quite open for a major upset this year.
